3-Iron

3-Iron is a Korean movie directed by Ki-duk Kim. I watched it a few days back with one of my friends. The movie is fabulous. Just great!! Alongwith the rest of the movie, I also really loved its ending. I mean, not just the story part of it, but the way it was shown. A clip of the ending is available on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9D5PADmrrU. The sound track is also awesome!! Since I found this clip on YouTube, I have watched it more than 10 times in 2 days!!

While watching the clip, a very interesting thought occurred to me. I think that this 4 min clip sums up all human endeavour on this planet. And it does it so beautifully.

The clip begins with a girl standing in the middle of a well-furnished room. She is searching for her beloved who has hid himself somewhere. After a while, she gets the feeling that he is behind her. But she is not able to see him even on turning to the left or right. This is because he has mastered the art of stealth. But something inside her makes her sure that he is there right behind her. There is no point in turning around, because he will use his skills to keep himself away from her sight. At this point, she spreads her hands out and starts walking back. This way, he will have no option but to follow her and walk back himself. But the room is only finite in size and thus, soon they will reach the wall and the girl can then turn around and kiss him!!

All human beings on this planet are searching for something: a purpose to live for, a goal to be achieved. After searching a lot, we come across something that we want to achieve. We come across something that seems to give us a purpose in our lives. For someone it could be building the fastest car and for someone else it could be going to the moon. The details may differ, but the basic pursuit is the same. The human being now knows that the goal exists and the search has begun to bear results. The girl now knows that her beloved is there right behind her.

After the person knows what s/he wants to achieve, there is a period of strong desire to possess the object of his/her ambition. The mind wants to have it instantly. But there is no use of such restlessness. The beloved has excellent stealth abilities. He will hide himself if the girl tries to see him immediately by turning around.

After a period of intense restlessness, the mind understands that it can't have the object immediately. It needs to be patient and work at it. And after having put in the required effort in the right manner, the results are bound to follow. The girl has spread her arms and is moving backwards with confidence and grace. And lo, behold!! The time finally comes when the goal is achieved!! The beloved has no more place to move. The goal can no longer keep moving to eternity. It has been achieved.

The girl now turns back and kisses her beloved. After having achieved his/her goal, the human being enjoys its fruits with all the heart.

These words have surely spoilt the beauty of the thought. See the video yourself, and forget all these words!! Just be immersed in the beauty of thoughts, for thoughts are eternal...
